Silencing Insights

Silencing lets you suppress insights you have already handled or that do not apply to your environment, so they stop appearing in the active Insights view.

Scope

When you silence an insight, you choose one of the following scopes:

ScopeWhat it suppressesExample use case
This insightThe entire insight, including any resources that appear in future syncs”We don’t care about this insight type at all”
Specific resourcesOnly the resources you select”I’ve already fixed these”
Resources matching a filterResources matching the filter you select”This doesn’t apply to our dev accounts”

When silencing resources matching a filter, use the same filters available in Asset Inventory (account, region, resource type, tags). All resources for which the insight is generated that match the filter will be silenced automatically in the future.

New resources that appear in later syncs are not automatically covered by the Specific resources silence.

Duration

All scopes support:

  • Indefinitely — stays silenced until you manually unsilence it
  • 7 days / 30 days / 90 days — automatically re-surfaces after the period elapses
  • Custom date — pick a specific re-surface date

If a silenced resource temporarily disappears (for example, because it was fixed) and then reappears in a later sync, it stays silenced.

If you silence some resources and later insight-silence the whole insight, the insight-level silence takes precedence and fully suppresses the insight, including future resources.

Adding a note

You can attach an optional free-text note when silencing — for example, “Dev accounts only — INFRA-42” or “Scheduled for remediation Q3”. Notes appear in the Silenced view so other users understand why something was silenced.

Silencing an insight

  1. Open Insights from the sidebar.
  2. Click the menu on an insight row and select Silence.
  3. In the panel, choose a scope, duration, and optional note.
  4. Click Silence. The insight (or selected resources) disappears from the active view immediately.

Silencing multiple insights at once

In the Insights view, click the Select multiple insights button. Select the checkboxes on multiple insight rows, then click Silence N insights in the action bar that appears at the bottom of the page. Bulk silencing only supports insight-level scope — resource selection doesn’t carry across multiple insights, since each insight has its own resource set.

Viewing and managing silenced insights

Switch to the Silenced view using the filter toggle at the top of the Insights page. Each row shows:

  • Insight title and silenced resource count
  • Scope: “Insight silenced” or “N resources silenced”
  • Duration: “Indefinitely” or “Re-surfaces [date]”
  • The note, if one was added
  • Who silenced it and when

Click Unsilence on any row to immediately restore that insight to the active view.

Insights with only some resources silenced continue to appear in the active view, showing just the unsilenced resources — the silenced count isn’t shown there. An insight only moves fully into the Silenced view once all of its current resources are silenced.

If every silenced resource on a resource-level silence is later fixed and disappears, the insight disappears from both views. It reappears in the active view if new resources trigger it again.

Permissions

Silencing is workspace-level, not personal: any user with access to Insights can silence an insight for the entire workspace. It’s designed as an admin/configuration action for whoever is curating the Insights view for the org, not a per-user preference.
